Carson City Is Commemorating Nevada’s Birthday Throughout the Entire Weekend

NEVADA – This weekend in Carson City, Nevada, locals and visitors alike will be commemorating the state’s birthday. A large number of people are expected to attend Saturday’s Nevada Day Parade.

“It’s electric; it’s the best day of the year in Carson City,” said Lydia Beck of Visit Carson City. “It’s kind of like a birthday party, except that everyone there is a native of Nevada, so the celebration is even more boisterous. It’s the equivalent of, and feels like, 14,000 to 16,000 people all having their birthdays at the same time. Because of this, Nevada Day is a very exciting day in Carson City.”

Today marks the 158th anniversary of Nevada’s admission to the Union as a state. On Saturday, the fun begins bright and early.

According to Beck, there will be “an enormous amount of events in addition to the parade,” including a balloon launch, a four-hour march, a beard contest, rock drilling, a vintage market, and a Fall Fest. One of the highlights is taking off from the heart of town in a hot air balloon.

It’s a great opportunity to support local companies and visit the sights of the nation’s capital.

Everyone in the downtown corridor and beyond is taking part, according to Beck, because “almost all of the restaurants are open and doing some type of special.” The Stewart Indian School will be open on Saturday, and both the Nevada State Railroad Museum and the Nevada State Museum will offer free entry in honor of the festivities happening this weekend.

This year, like in years past, the Nevada Day Powwow will take place from Friday through Sunday.
