Unseasonable Autumn Heat Wave Grips Las Vegas Through Friday Before Weekend Cold Front Arrives

LAS VEGAS, NV — Summer refuses to loosen its grip on Southern Nevada as the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed Monday afternoon that above-normal temperatures will dominate the Las Vegas Valley through Friday before a sharp weather shift brings a blustery, cooler autumn weekend.
The regional meteorological forecast—issued on Monday, October 5, 2026, by the NWS Las Vegas Weather Forecast Office—predicts daytime highs hovering within striking distance of 100°F across the central valley floor, South Strip corridor, and Henderson.
The prolonged warmth delays typical early-October relief, extending seasonal heat advisories for outdoor hospitality workers, airport ramp agents, and commercial construction crews.

High-Pressure Ridge Over the Mojave Basin
The unseasonable conditions stem from a persistent high-pressure subtropical ridge centered over the desert Southwest, which continues deflecting early autumn polar troughs northward into the Pacific Northwest and northern Great Basin.
Valley surface observations recorded Monday afternoon saw temperatures push past 96°F at Harry Reid International Airport, with pavement temperatures along the Las Vegas Boulevard corridor exceeding 135°F.
The Clark County Department of Environment and Air Quality also issued moderate ozone advisories, cautioning that prolonged midday sunshine and light stagnant valley winds are contributing to elevated ground-level particulate and ozone concentrations in the eastern valley and Sunrise Manor.
“While we are into October on the calendar, the atmospheric pattern remains locked in a late-summer profile across Clark County,” NWS meteorologists stated in their midday briefing. “Residents and outdoor workers should continue observing hydration protocols and sun protection during peak solar hours.”
Weekend Transition: Cooler Air and Wind Gusts
Relief is projected to arrive by the weekend as a cold upper-level low-pressure system drops out of the Gulf of Alaska and pushes across northern Nevada.

The system will compress the desert pressure gradient beginning Friday evening, generating sustained south-southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with isolated gusts reaching 35 mph along the western foothills of Summerlin and Mountains Edge.
By Sunday, October 11, daytime highs are projected to drop into the low 80s across the Las Vegas urban basin, delivering the first sustained stretch of true autumn temperatures to Southern Nevada.
