Seats on the CCSD School Board May Change

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Voters may be altering the face of the troubled Clark County School District Board of Trustees. Two of the three incumbents vying for re-election are fighting to maintain their seats in the country’s fifth-largest school district.

As of late Tuesday evening, Trustee President Irene Cepeda, who represents District D, was behind her opponent Brenda Zamora in votes. Cepeda was elected to the board in 2018 and takes over as president in early 2022 after serving as vice president.

Danielle Ford is running in District F against Irene Bustamante Adams. Ford is behind Bustamante Adams.

Trustee Linda P. Cavazos holds an early lead over former Eureka County School Superintendent Greg Wieman. Both are running for the District G seat.

This election comes after years of strife among certain board members. To try to improve their relationship, the board of trustees has spent thousands of public money on training and retreats.

Despite the training, there was still conflict at board meetings and on social media.

Because school elections are nonpartisan, any candidate who receives a majority of the vote wins.

Election authorities said they resumed ballot counting at 6 a.m. Wednesday. None of the results are definitive until the final ballots are counted.
