Bryce Harper a Las Vegas Native Will Get His Elbow Examined

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – Bryce Harper, a native of Las Vegas, is scheduled to have his injured right elbow examined next week to determine whether surgery is required.

The two-time NL MVP tore an elbow ligament in April and was unable to play outfield for the remainder of the season.

Harper, who turned 30 in October, will see noted orthopedist Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday to have his damaged ulnar collateral ligament checked.

“It could be no surgery to Tommy John surgery,” Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski told reporters Wednesday at the MLB general managers’ meetings in Las Vegas. “We’ll just have to wait and see what the doctor says.”

In 99 games, Harper batted.286 with 18 home runs and 65 RBIs. He was a force as the Phillies’ designated hitter, leading them to the World Series, where they were defeated in six games by Houston.

“It did not bother his elbow to hit,” Dombrowski said. “So that’s one good thing.”

Harper fractured his thumb after being struck by a pitch in late June and was out for two months.

Harper inked a $330 million, 13-year contract with the Phillies as a free agent for the 2019 season. He earned the NLCS MVP this year, despite being a seven-time All-Star.
