Ex-felon Sentenced to Almost 6 Years in Prison for Illegal Possession of Guns

RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – A former offender who had previously been convicted of felonies was given a sentence of more than 6 years in jail for illegally possessing three weapons, according to news reports on Tuesday.

According to court papers, 41-year-old David Lee Wiley Jr. of Sparks pled guilty in August to felon in possession of weapons. On February 4, he acknowledged to having three firearms: a rifle, a stolen Glock 30S.45 caliber handgun, and a loaded, high-capacity magazine. Wiley is forbidden from owning weapons owing to past felony offenses in Washoe County, including convictions for ex-felon in possession of a handgun and possession of a restricted drug for the purpose of sale.

Wiley was sentenced to 77 months in prison on Monday, December 19, by Chief U.S. District Judge Miranda M. Du, followed by three years of supervised release, according to U.S. The announcement was made by Attorney Jason M. Frierson for the District of Nevada and Acting Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

The Sparks Police Department and the ATF investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Keenan.
