LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District (CCSD) announced on Tuesday that it has reached a tentative deal with the unions representing education support staff. The contract with the Education Support Employees Association (ESEA) and Teamsters Local 14 will undergo review at a special meeting of the Board of Trustees scheduled for Friday, August 4. Approval of the agreement will also be subject to a vote by the members of ESEA and the Teamsters.
The proposed deal encompasses several key provisions aimed at enhancing the well-being of support professionals within the district. One of the major highlights is the implementation of a $15-per-hour minimum wage for all support staff. This move is expected to significantly benefit employees at the lower end of the wage scale and improve their financial stability.
In addition to the minimum wage increase, the agreement includes adjustments to the salary scale, an increase in healthcare benefits, and various internal compensation improvements. These collective measures aim to recognize the valuable contributions of support professionals and foster their retention and recruitment.
Negotiating the terms of the agreement was a complex process, but both parties expressed satisfaction with the final outcome. ESEA President Jan Giles stated, “Negotiations are never easy, but we believe this agreement provides important steps in the recruitment and retention of support professionals.” The deal reflects the district’s commitment to supporting its dedicated staff and promoting an environment conducive to student success.
The Education Support Employees Association represents a diverse range of crucial roles within the school district, including bus drivers, custodians, food service workers, facilities maintenance personnel, landscaping staff, and office personnel. Acknowledging the significance of this partnership, Board of School Trustees President Evelyn Garcia-Morales commented, “We appreciate ESEA’s partnership as we all work to compensate our Support Professionals as our focus remains on student success.”
The pending contract signifies a positive step forward for CCSD support staff, bringing hope for improved working conditions and a brighter future for the entire school community. As the review process and voting commence, both CCSD administration and union members are hopeful for an agreement that will benefit all parties involved.
