Tragedy on Lake Havasu: Woman Drowns After Life Jacket Comes Off

A 49-year-old woman from La Mesa, California, identified as Cynthia Marin, tragically lost her life in a drowning incident on Lake Havasu on Sunday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the area near The Islander RV Resort at around 2:00 pm following reports of a missing swimmer.

“Initial reports indicated that an adult female had jumped from a boat to go for a swim,” the release stated. “Unfortunately, her life jacket became dislodged upon entering the water.”

Officials further reported that Ms. Marin “panicked and went underwater” shortly after losing her life jacket.

A swift response was initiated, with Mohave County’s Dive Rescue and Recovery Team alongside a Careflight helicopter immediately deployed to locate Ms. Marin.

Despite initial efforts, Ms. Marin remained missing. The search continued with the utilization of advanced technology like side scan sonar and additional divers.

The relentless efforts bore fruit later, with Ms. Marin’s body ultimately recovered from the 59-degree water at a depth of 42 feet.

“The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing,” the Sheriff’s Office spokesperson concluded.

This heartbreaking event underscores the crucial importance of water safety measures. Wearing a properly secured life jacket is vital for all individuals venturing onto the water, regardless of swimming ability.
