LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Deobra Redden, the defendant who famously leapt over the bench and attacked Judge Mary Kay Holthus during a court hearing, has pleaded guilty to an attempted murder charge. The incident, which occurred on January 3rd, resulted in injuries to both the judge and a court marshal.
Redden, who was originally facing nine charges, now faces a single count of attempted murder. He pleaded guilty to six other charges, while two were dismissed.
The trial revealed new details about the events leading up to the attack. Judge Holthus testified that Redden had a history of violent offenses, including multiple domestic battery convictions and an attempted robbery. She also revealed that Redden had failed to appear for a previous sentencing hearing.
The attack video, played in court, showed the chaotic scene as Redden jumped over the bench and struck Judge Holthus. The judge sustained injuries to her head, back, and arm, and was forced to take time off work to recover.
Redden’s sentencing is scheduled for November 7th.
