K-9 Lawsuit in Vegas Raises Alarm Over Police Power and Oversight

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, October 4, 2025 10:50 am

In Las Vegas, a new lawsuit paints a troubling picture of law enforcement overreach: police are being sued after a K-9 allegedly mauled a tourist in a scenario critics say lacked oversight and accountability. The victim, identified as Jacey Looper, says she was inside a backyard casita when officers and a canine unit breached the property—without evidence that the suspect was there—and the dog attacked her repeatedly.

According to the complaint, Officers Brayden McMahill and Glenn Obsenares jumped a fence and entered a multi-family residence to search for a suspect. Looper was in one of eight units, none of which responded to a doorbell, yet the officers proceeded. That’s where the real problem begins. The suit contends that Obsenares held the leash loosely, failed to control the dog, and did nothing to stop the attack even as the K-9 tore into Looper’s leg. She suffered deep lacerations, punctures, and needed more than 30 stitches.

This case isn’t just about a rogue canine—it’s about accountability and the limits of police power. When officers bypass basic procedural safeguards, the tools meant to protect citizens become instruments of harm. The lawsuit underscores the necessity of clear tactical plans, proper supervision, and strict standards of force, especially when using powerful tools like police dogs.

The left may call this a rare pathetic instance of “excessive force,” but it should serve as a cautionary tale to everyone: unchecked law enforcement authority leads to innocent people paying the price. If we value true public safety, we must demand reform—training, accountability, oversight—not blind faith in every decision made in blue.
