The Clark County School District (CCSD) has released results from a recent community survey assessing support for shifting school start times later by 30 minutes across all grade levels.
According to the district, the survey recorded responses from 48,038 participants. Of those, approximately 65 percent of elementary school families, 75 percent of middle school families, and 68 percent of high school respondents indicated support for the adjustment.
The proposal outlined would move high school start times to 7:30 a.m., middle schools to 8:30 a.m., and elementary schools to 9:30 a.m. under a revised bell-schedule plan. Administration materials stated the change could improve student rest, mental health and academic performance while remaining cost-neutral for transportation and staff.
However, the survey presentation also noted potential challenges. Some parents and staff highlighted conflicts with work and childcare schedules, limited time for after-school programs and potential impact on family routines with later dismissal times.
The CCSD Board of Trustees is scheduled to review the proposal at their upcoming meeting and will consider the community input before making any decision.
