“Pimp of Vegas” Horsford Suddenly Outraged by Backroom Politics

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, December 17, 2025 6:00 am

Rep. Steven Horsford used his MSNOW appearance to rail against “backroom deals” in Washington. For longtime Nevada political observers, the irony was hard to miss.

Horsford has faced criticism in the past over his fundraising practices and relationships with donors during his rise in Nevada politics. At the time, critics accused him of acting as a pimp between Democrat power brokers and deep-pocketed interests a reputation that earned him an unflattering nickname among political insiders.

It is difficult to take lectures about transparency seriously from a politician whose career has repeatedly raised questions about influence and access.

The hypocrisy is compounded by Horsford’s embrace of procedural tactics like discharge petitions, tools designed to bypass debate while claiming to champion open governance.

Nevadans deserve leaders who practice what they preach. Condemning “backroom politics” while engaging in political maneuvering and carrying unresolved trust issues is not reform. It is business as usual.
