A man died Tuesday afternoon after being pinned against a loading dock by a semi truck’s tractor-trailer, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Police said the incident was reported shortly before 4:50 p.m. in the 4800 block of East Cheyenne Avenue near Nellis Boulevard. Investigators determined that a Volvo tractor-trailer was backing toward a loading bay several feet away from the bay door.
Based on evidence at the scene and surveillance video, police believe the driver exited the cab and moved behind the trailer. At some point, the tractor-trailer unexpectedly shifted into reverse, pinning the man against the dock’s locking bumper.
The driver was discovered several hours later. Emergency medical personnel responded, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
LVMPD identified the victim as a 32-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio. The department’s Collision Investigation Section is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released.
