Las Vegas Man Arrested on Animal Abuse Charges After Incident Outside OYO Casino

A Las Vegas man is facing animal abuse charges after casino security officers reported witnessing him strike a dog outside the OYO Casino earlier this month, according to police records.

Alwyn Lennan, 36, was arrested on Thursday, January 8, after security personnel said they observed him physically hitting a dog outside the property. An arrest report states that Lennan appeared intoxicated when officers escorted him out of the casino.

Security staff reported that Lennan became verbally aggressive, took a fighting stance, and challenged officers to a confrontation. Investigators later reviewed surveillance video that showed Lennan striking the dog multiple times and engaging in a verbal altercation with a passerby near the MGM area.

The video also showed the dog retreating under a bush and appearing distressed. When police arrived, they located Lennan but were unable to interview him due to his level of intoxication. Officers confirmed that Lennan still had the dog in his possession at the time.

The animal, described in the report as a small bully or pug-type dog, was taken into protective custody and transported to The Animal Foundation for care and evaluation.

Court records indicate that Lennan is being held without bail and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on January 27. The case remains under investigation.
