Titus, Lee Vote Against Protecting Police Dogs as Horsford Skips Vote

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, March 20, 2026 6:00 am

Nevada Democrats Dina Titus and Susie Lee voted against legislation to increase penalties for illegal immigrants who injure or kill federal law enforcement dogs, while Congressman Steven Horsford did not show up to vote.

The bill would impose stricter consequences on individuals who harm K9 units that assist federal officers in tracking suspects, detecting explosives, and securing dangerous situations.

These dogs are routinely deployed on the front lines of law enforcement operations, often taking risks to protect officers and civilians.

Titus and Lee opposed the measure. Horsford was absent.

The vote comes just one day after Titus and Lee also voted against the Deporting Fraudsters Act, legislation aimed at cracking down on illegal immigrants who exploit taxpayer funded programs like Social Security and Medicare.

The pattern is becoming harder to ignore. Nevada families are watching a steady drumbeat of votes where Democrats side against enforcement, against accountability, and increasingly against the basic functions of public safety.

Law enforcement groups have long emphasized the critical role K9 units play in protecting officers and communities. When these animals are attacked, it is often in the middle of high risk operations involving violent suspects.

Yet Nevada’s Democrat delegation chose to vote no.

“Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford couldn’t even bring themselves to punish illegal immigrants who attack law enforcement dogs. These animals put their lives on the line to protect Americans, and Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford sided with the criminals who harm them. It’s indefensible,” said NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez.

The NRCC has already moved to capitalize, launching a digital ad highlighting what it calls a broader pattern of putting illegal immigrants ahead of Americans.

That message is landing in a state where public safety and border security remain top tier concerns for voters.

In Nevada, the political terrain is shifting. Working families are grappling with rising costs, strained public services, and growing frustration over what they see as misplaced priorities in Washington.

Votes like these cut through the noise. They are simple. They are visceral. And they are easy to understand.

Protect law enforcement and the animals that defend them. Or don’t. Nevada voters are taking note.
