Downtown Standoff Ends in Arrest After Fourth Metro Officer-Involved Shooting of 2026

LAS VEGAS, NV — A disruptive property damage call in Downtown Las Vegas escalated into a high-stakes SWAT barricade and an officer-involved shooting late Tuesday afternoon, authorities confirmed.

The Confrontation

At approximately 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officers responded to reports of a man “destroying property” at an apartment complex in the 200 block of North 11th Street, near East Fremont Street.

According to Captain Ryan Wiggins, responding officers encountered the individual on the fourth floor of the building. During the interaction, the suspect produced what officers believed to be a firearm. In response to the perceived threat, at least one officer discharged their service weapon toward the suspect.

The Barricade and Resolution

Following the gunfire, the suspect retreated into a nearby room, triggering a barricade situation. LVMPD SWAT and crisis negotiators were dispatched to the scene, cordoning off the area and evacuating nearby residents.

After several hours of negotiation, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. Medical personnel on-site determined that the suspect had not been struck by the officer’s gunfire. No officers or bystanders were injured during the standoff.

Ongoing Investigation

This incident marks the fourth officer-involved shooting in the LVMPD jurisdiction in 2026. Per department policy:

The identity of the officer involved will be released within 48 hours.
