Part 9: Federal Land Unlocks Nevada Housing

Our 20-part series, Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill: Nevada’s Wins and Losses, celebrates a housing breakthrough. The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (Sec. 3201) transfers 449,174 acres of federal land to Washoe, Clark, Lyon, and Pershing Counties. With 80% of Nevada federally owned, this fuels homes and businesses.
A Clark County developer like Maria can build 1,000 homes, easing Las Vegas’s $600,000 median price. In 2018, similar transfers spurred Reno’s 2,000-unit boom. Critics fear sprawl, but Nevada’s 1.5% housing vacancy rate demands action. In 2024, 10,000 families moved to Clark County, straining supply.
Nevada’s growth is relentless, from Vegas to rural towns. As land opens, ask: Will this house our future, or reshape our desert forever?
