Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is suing to appear on the Nevada presidential ballot, is expected to speak at this week’s FreedomFest in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 12. Governor Joe Lombardo will kick off the event on July 10 with a speech entitled, “Welcome to Las Vegas: What happens here, only happens here.”
Now in its 17th year and produced by renowned economist Mark Skousen and his family, FreedomFest “The world’s largest gathering of free minds” is an annual conference and convention dedicated to the study and the celebration of various liberty-centered issues. Although officially nonpartisan, the conference appears to attract libertarians, independents, and conservatives. Previous speakers have included high-profile Democrats and Republicans, as well as several independents.
Featured speakers this year include: authors and businessmen Steve Forbes and Robert Kiyosaki; actor and musician Ice-T; actor and comedian Rob Schneider; authors and scientists Steven Pinker and Bret Weinstein; journalist Michael Shellenberger; Whole Foods founder John Mackey; Black Guns Matter founder Maj Toure; Green Party candidate Jill Stein; and Fox News hosts Emily Compagno and Kennedy, the latter of whom will be emceeing.
President of Argentina Javier Milei, a rising star among libertarians worldwide, was originally scheduled to appear but had to drop out.
Along with several panels and talks, the four-day event will be accompanied by other functions, including a stand-up comedy festival, headlined by Schneider; numerous film screenings; and a debate, co-moderated by Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie and live-streamed on Rumble, involving several third-party presidential candidates.
It is not yet clear whether Mr. Kennedy, who will be speaking right before the debate on Friday, will subsequently participate in it. Mr. Kennedy has tried and failed to be included in nationally televised presidential debates involving presidential frontrunners Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Although much of the event’s subject matter is national and international in scope, local issues are not likely to be neglected.
Speaking to the Nevada Globe, FreedomFest President and CEO Valerie Durham said that the selection of Las Vegas as the host city is not casual. “FreedomFest has called Las Vegas, Nevada home since 2007 because the city’s history of libertarianism, individual choice, and freedom has always resonated with our values. In recent years, specifically during the pandemic, Las Vegas and the state of Nevada suffered a reverse of these values, with government-imposed lockdowns that prevented its residents and visitors from living freely. We are tackling the impact of the shutdowns, vaccine trials, and COVID mania this week in numerous speeches, panels, and films.”
Registration is open to the public. Access to specific parts of the event can be purchased individually. Prices vary, but Nevada residents are eligible for several discounts, including $150 off the full conference price. Single-day and two-day passes are also available at a reduced rate. Visit freedomfest.com/locals for more information.
The Nevada Globe will be covering the event, which will run from July 10 to the 13th.
