Meet Laura Martin (she/her) the Executive Director of the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN), an organization dedicated to advancing progressive causes and candidates in Nevada. Their coalition of more than 30 various organizations aim to make Nevada a more “socially and environmentally just state.” PLAN aligns with organizations such as Planned Parenthood, Chispa, Mass Liberation Project, Silver State Equality, and the Culinary Union.

Martin sent out separate posts over the weekend wishing for the campaign-ending news related to the death of President Donald Trump. She then shockingly claimed that the assassination attempt at Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania was “staged.”

Despite PLAN’s non-partisan flex, Martin’s social media history is replete with incendiary rhetoric directed at republican candidates and officials in and outside of Nevada, yet that hasn’t prevented the Nevada Democratic party and elected Democratic officials from working with PLAN on legislation that impacts the lives of Nevadans.

Their “Planistas” are activists and community organizers who are prominent during the legislative session to influence state Democratic lawmakers, like Assemblywoman Cecilia Gonzalez, to advance progressive legislation.

In a live chat on Instagram, Gonzalez states that she got involved with PLAN as a Planista in 2015 because she was “angry.” As an elected assemblywoman, she has sponsored legislation for criminal justice reform that PLAN has endorsed and amplified. During the chat, Gonzalez has promised to reintroduce the legislation during the next legislative session in 2025.

Democratic candidates and elected officials have long-praised PLAN’s organizing efforts, related endorsements, and voter engagement to win their respective races. In 2018, Rosen thanked the progressive organization and referred to their efforts as “important work.”

Earlier today, the Nevada GOP had called on Nevada Democrats to denounce Martin’s toxic rhetoric, referring to her statements as “classless” and “What is wrong with America.”

In response to Martin’s posts on X, a spokesperson from Rosen’s campaign issued this statement to The Globe:

“Senator Rosen strongly disagrees with these comments and believes that calls for political violence and hate have no place in this country. She has called for us to come together as Americans and reject baseless conspiracy theories on both sides.”

“Senator Cortez Masto believes calls for political violence are wrong and strongly condemns the irresponsible rhetoric from Laura Martin.” – Lauren Wodarski, Spokesperson for Senator Catherine Cortez Masto.

Chris D’Aloia, Communications Director for Rep. Susie Lee told The Globe, “Congresswoman Lee strongly denounces political violence and any calls for it, including the disturbing comments from Laura Martin.”

Ana Kasparian, executive producer and host of the Young Turks stated: “those alleging that someone shooting at Trump today were “staged’ with zero evidence are loathsome, disgusting people who play a big role in tearing this country apart.”

Martin and PLAN have blocked The Nevada Globe on X and Martin has now made her Instagram profile private. Blocking a state-recognized news agency from fairly reporting on your political efforts and influence in Nevada politics is not progressive, it is cowardly and infantile.

The Globe has reached out to Assemblywoman Cecilia Gonzales and Nevada Democratic Party Chair Assemblywoman Daniel Monroe-Moreno for comment. We will update the article with their comments if and when received.

  • PLAN is just another communist front organization and she is just another whacko commie. Businesses and politicians in Nevada need to keep that in mind when they associate with PLAN and its members. The Democrat Party aligns with them because they are communists, too. Birds of a feather flock together. Criminal justice for them means letting criminals out of prison to victimize innocent people. Environmental Justice means giving tax breaks to solar companies that kills birds and things like that. Social justice means that people who are lazy and don't want to work should get the same amount of pay as people who work hard long hours.
