LAS VEGAS, NV — An underage female equestrian competitor faces multiple felony animal cruelty and property damage charges following a shocking weekend security breach that left three horses wounded at a premier Las Vegas resort property.

The South Point Stable Attack

The investigation was launched early Saturday morning, May 30, 2026, during the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) Las Vegas Super Show, which was actively being hosted at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa along the southern resort corridor of Las Vegas Boulevard.

According to reports from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s (LVMPD) Animal Cruelty Section, stable hands discovered three competitive barrel horses suffering from severe, bleeding laceration injuries inside a designated barn structure on the property. Arriving patrol units and veterinary personnel confirmed that the deep wounds had been intentionally inflicted with a sharp cutting object.

Investigation and Juvenile Booking

Detectives reviewing localized barn access records and venue security video profiles quickly identified a minor female competitor as the primary suspect. Investigators noted that because the teenager was actively registered as a participant in the NBHA showcase, she possessed legitimate, unhindered access to the specialized stable infrastructure where the targeted horses were stalled.

Following a localized sweep, officers located the juvenile at a neighboring resort property and took her into custody without further incident. Due to strict statutory privacy laws governing minors, her identity, age, and hometown are being withheld by law enforcement command staff.

The juvenile suspect was transported and processed into the Clark County Juvenile Hall. She faces 12 independent counts of Willful or Malicious Maiming, Killing, or Torturing of an Animal, alongside three felony counts of Malicious Destruction of Private Property Exceeding $5,000.

The NBHA released a formal statement addressing the tragedy, emphasizing that the horses were immediately pulled from the remainder of the weekend competition tiers to receive emergency medical stabilization. Veterinarians have confirmed that while the animals required extensive suturing, their injuries are fortunately not life-threatening.
