Las Vegas Opens Free Police Academy to the Public This Fall

Las Vegas residents interested in learning more about law enforcement will have an opportunity to participate in the city’s upcoming Citizens Police Academy. Scheduled to run Wednesday evenings from August 27 through November 12, the free program is hosted by the city’s Department of Public Safety.

Held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the academy is designed to provide a deeper understanding of police procedures and operations. Topics will include patrol techniques, use of force, arrests, case law, search and seizure, and specialized units such as bike and motorcycle patrol. The program will also feature insights into animal protection services, custody procedures, and call processing.

Participants will take part in demonstrations and tours, including visits to the Fremont Street Substation and the Las Vegas Detention Center.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, live or work in Las Vegas, and have no felony or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions. The city encourages interested individuals to apply before the August 3 deadline, as space is limited.
