LVMPD Officer Shoots Woman Armed with Edged Weapon in CSN West Charleston Parking Lot

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is investigating an officer-involved shooting after an officer shot and wounded a woman who approached police with an edged weapon and demanded to be shot early Friday morning in a parking lot on the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) West Charleston campus.

The incident marks the 11th officer-involved shooting (OIS) within LVMPD’s jurisdiction in 2026.

Vehicle Banging, Taser Deployment, and Firearm Discharge

According to preliminary findings detailed by Captain Adam Seely of LVMPD’s Office of Internal Oversight and Constitutional Policing, the encounter began at approximately 5:15 AM.

Officers were parked in their patrol vehicles inside a lot at the corner of South Torrey Pines Drive and Del Rey Avenue—along the 6300 block of West Charleston Boulevard on the CSN campus—when an agitated woman armed with an edged weapon walked up to their cruisers.

The suspect began banging directly on the exterior of the police vehicles using the weapon. When the officers exited their cruisers and issued repeated verbal commands for her to drop the weapon, she refused to comply, acted aggressively, and advanced directly toward one of the officers while demanding to be shot.

An officer deployed an electronic control device (Taser) in an effort to de-escalate the confrontation with less-lethal force. When the Taser prongs proved ineffective and the woman continued advancing toward the officer, that officer discharged their department-issued handgun, striking the woman.

Emergency Aid Rendered and Campus Clarification

Following the gunfire, officers secured the suspect, established a perimeter, and immediately administered trauma first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived.

She was transported by ambulance to the Trauma Center at University Medical Center (UMC), where she was admitted in critical but stable condition. No police personnel were injured.

During a media briefing Friday morning, Captain Seely clarified that while the confrontation occurred on the campus property, investigators found no evidence that the woman is a student, employee, or otherwise affiliated with CSN.

“This did occur in an isolated area of CSN in one of the parking lots,” Captain Seely said. “We have no information that the suspect in this incident has any ties to the campus or the school.”

Under standard LVMPD operational policy, the identity of the officer who discharged their weapon will be released after 48 hours.

A comprehensive Multi-Agency/Critical Incident briefing detailing body-worn camera footage will be presented by department executive leadership within several business days.
