LAS VEGAS – Marcus Montez, 33, from Las Vegas, is now charged with murder for allegedly killing his brother earlier this year, adding to a terrible past. Documents allege Marcus Montez shot and killed 32-year-old Demarkie Montez in North Las Vegas in May. Marcus Montez was convicted of murdering his stepfather as a teenager, which was revealed by the occurrence.
Records show that Marcus Montez was detained late last month for his brother’s death. His two-month arrest delay is unknown.
North Las Vegas police responded to a shooting in the 1500 block of Honey Vista Lane at 4:45 a.m. on May 28. A witness said Marcus Montez and his brother had argued at a BBQ with other family members, according to records. A neighbor’s surveillance camera showed a car speeding away after the incident.
The Clark County coroner’s office confirmed Demarkie Montez’s backshot death.
Marcus Montez was charged with murder before. He shot his stepfather, Eric Bennett, with a rifle in February 2007. Marcus Montez’s attorney said this happened after years of domestic violence. Bennett had been drinking and fought Marcus Montez in the 2007 altercation, which ended in a fatal shooting.
Marcus Montez was sentenced to five years in jail for voluntary manslaughter with a deadly weapon.
Marcus Montez is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center for allegedly murdering his brother. August 15 is his court date.
