Petition Calls for Free Parking in Parts of Las Vegas Arts District

Residents in Las Vegas are organizing opposition to paid parking in the city’s Arts District, launching a petition this week that calls for changes to the current parking system. The petition, hosted on Change.org, urges city officials to restore free parking in portions of the area and reconsider recently added fees.
The effort follows the introduction of an additional $1-per-hour parking charge that took effect several months ago. Petition organizers argue that the expanded paid parking has placed an added burden on visitors, workers, and small businesses in the district.
Specifically, the petition requests the removal of paid parking north of Charleston Boulevard and the elimination of parking meters on side streets and in less developed sections of the Arts District. Supporters say these areas should not be subject to the same fee structure as more heavily trafficked zones.
As of this week, the petition has collected more than 3,000 signatures, signaling growing community interest in revisiting the policy. City officials have not yet publicly responded to the petition or indicated whether changes to the parking program are being considered.
