Tragic Weekend at Lake Mead National Recreation Area: Six Fatalities and Multiple Incidents Reported

LAS VEGAS –  Over the past weekend, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area experienced a series of unfortunate events, resulting in six fatalities on both land and water. The incidents included a multiple-car crash, drownings, and an apparent suicide. Additionally, park rangers responded to several criminal incidents, ranging from assault and theft to drug use.

The fatal multiple-car crash claimed the lives of three individuals, while two tragic drownings and one apparent suicide further added to the somber toll. These incidents serve as a solemn reminder of the need for vigilance and responsible behavior when enjoying the park’s amenities.

During this time, park rangers also played a crucial role in ensuring visitor safety. They conducted 23 rescues, potentially preventing further casualties. In addition to these life-saving efforts, rangers addressed various criminal incidents, working tirelessly to maintain order and protect visitors.

Acting Superintendent Mike Gauthier emphasized the importance of safety and considerate behavior at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
