LAS VEGAS – The heat wave that has burned the Las Vegas area for the past 10 days is about to end.

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning on Tuesday morning, and it will end at 8 p.m. Thursday.

On September 7, Las Vegas and Death Valley both had record low high temperatures for the morning. Death Valley dropped to 99 on Wednesday morning, easily beating the 1979 record of 92. Las Vegas dropped to 87 early on Wednesday, which was higher than the 84 recorded in 2020.

The National Weather Service says Thursday’s high will be near 106, with light winds and a sunny sky.

The remnants of Hurricane Kay are moving from Baja California into California, Arizona, and maybe even Southern Nevada because of high pressure. The weather service says that rain could start to fall on Friday evening. Winds may reach 20 mph at times.

After a low of 82 in the morning, the high on Friday should be close to 100. There is a 10% chance of rain or storms on Friday night. Winds could get up to 21 mph.

On Saturday, the high will be around 88, and there is a 30% chance of rain.
