With Cooler Weather, the Mosquito Fire Slows Down

NEVADA – On Saturday, as breezes cleared the air in Carson Valley, firefighters took advantage of the cooler, wetter weather to contain a third of the Mosquito Fire.
Forecasts are for rain to continue over the fire today, with the rain increasing heavier tonight, so firefighters are working hard to make as much progress as they can before the storm passes and the weather warms up again.
The villages’ southern and western flanks will be protected while firefighters “continue shoring up the corners of the fire,” officials stated on Sunday. “Firefighters will also keep backhauling hose, gear, and equipment from regions where they are no longer needed,” says the article.
According to the Federal Information for Resource Management website, the fire on the eastern front laid down overnight.
However, on Saturday, clear air arrived in Carson Valley thanks to a change in the winds.
According to fire.airnow.gov, the air quality has improved over most of Western Nevada, including in communities directly downwind of the fire such as Alta, California.
According to forecasters, the smoke today will be similar to Saturday across most of Western Nevada, with the densest smoke in the Sierra Valley and Portola, drifting east into West Central Nevada overnight and Monday morning.
