Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Was Led on a Pursuit Near Fernley by a Suspicious Stolen Car

LYON COUNTY, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – On Wednesday afternoon, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) was led on a pursuit near Fernley by a suspicious stolen vehicle.

According to the LCSO, at 12:07 p.m. On October 12, LCSO Special Investigation Detectives discovered a suspicious car in the Pioneer Casino parking lot at 1705 Highway 50 Alternate. Following a search of the vehicle, officers found that it had been reported stolen.

Detectives attempted to arrest the driver, but he left the scene, slammed through a fence, drove over a decorative landscape, and collided into another car on Highway 50 Alternate. The suspect kept driving the opposite way down the highway, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.

The suspect came to a stop in a residential area before fleeing on foot, entering a residence in the 1200 block of Mountain Rose Drive through an open garage. Deputies then visited with the homeowner and informed them that they were secure and uninjured before entering the residence, where they discovered an unconscious male who was subsequently identified as the suspect. The male suspect was transferred to a hospital in stable condition after life-saving procedures were begun.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect attempted to escape arrest by entering a property through an unlocked door. Deputies also discovered indications and symptoms of a narcotic overdose on the man. The stolen automobile was searched, and methamphetamine and marijuana were discovered.

For safety reasons, Cottonwood Elementary School was placed on a temporary lockdown for the duration of the pursuit. Once it was determined that the school was safe, the lockdown was removed.

The suspect is thought to be an out-of-state resident with warrants from other jurisdictions, but there is presently no positive identification, according to the LCSO. He will be charged with possession of a stolen car, running from police in a vehicle, home burglary, possession of a controlled drug, and hindering law enforcement when he is released.

This is a continuing investigation; no injuries have been recorded as a result of this occurrence.
