After Unanimous Vote, Segerblom And McCurdy Lead Clark County Commission

In a unanimous vote, Commissioner Tick Segerblom was selected as Chairman of the Clark County Commission. Commisioner William McCurdy II was unanimously selected as Vice Chair. The seven county commissioners are members of the Democratic party.

Segerblom represents District E which includes a part of the City of Las Vegas in downtown as well as East Las Vegas. Segerblom was first elected to the Nevada Assembly to represent Assembly District 9 in 2006 and was then elected to the Nevada Senate in 2012 to represent Senate District 3. He has served as Commissioner since 2019.

Segerblom often aligns with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). In 2022, Segerblom cohosted a “Holiday Solidarity” event with known anti-semites and socialist activists. At the time, The Nevada Globe reached out to Commissioner Segerblom to inquire if he was fully aware of some of the more provocative positions taken by the DSA. Segerblom’s response was a simple “yes.”

Segerblom also maintains that school choice via opportunity scholarships is a “segregation movement.” He also came under fire from local businesses in his district after he referred to the business owners as “ungrateful miscreants.”  He has since apologized.

Since 2021, Commissioner McCurdy has represented District D which includes portions of Sunrise Manor in the Las Vegas Valley, as well as portions of the incorporated cities of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas. McCurdy was previously a member of the Nevada Assembly from 2016 to 2020 and chair of the Nevada Democratic Party from 2017 to 2021.

In 2021, Commissioners Segerblom and McCurdy supported diverting cannabis tax revenue to “rectify injustices” through social programs, including immigration defense for undocumented immigrants.

As reported by The Las Vegas Review Journal:

‘The county commission on Tuesday unanimously agreed to allocate any revenue greater than $12 million each year to social programs including immigration defense, an effort driven by Commissioners Tick Segerblom and William McCurdy II.’

“This really is a — I won’t say, ‘revolutionary’ — but a really exciting step forward as far as using our tax money to rectify injustices which have been enacted because of cannabis being illegal over the years,” Segerblom said.
