In his announcement, Danny Tarkanian skewered Republican Rep. Mark Amodei, claiming that Republicans need to have “America first values,” claiming that for 12 years, Amodei has not voted as a conservative. Tarkanian cites Amodei’s vote for amnesty for illegal aliens, supporting taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood, his vote to pass the $1.5 trillion omnibus, and his vote to impeach President Trump.
The Globe ran a story this week that detailed how Gun Owners of America has labeled 39 Republicans including Amodei who voted for enhanced screening for firearms buyers as “traitorous.”
Tarkanian is a well-known name in Nevada and politics. Tarkanian has launched unsuccessful campaigns for the Nevada Senate (2004), Nevada Secretary of State (2006), the United States Senate (2010 and 2016), the Nevada System of Higher Education (2014) and the United States House of Representatives (2012, 2016 and 2018).
Nevada’s 2nd congressional district is a Republican stronghold that includes the northern third of the state. It includes most of Lyon County, all of Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Pershing, Storey, and Washoe Counties, as well as the state capital, Carson City.
