Fake Pledge, Real Record: Susie Lee Can’t Hide Years of Voting With the Radical Left

Rep. Susie Lee is trying to convince voters she’s a commonsense moderate.
Republicans say her voting record tells a very different story.
This week, Lee joined a group of House Democrats in signing a so-called “Promise to America” pledge, an effort by centrist Democrats to distance themselves from the socialist wing of their party after a bruising 2024 election exposed deep divisions within the Democratic coalition.
The move comes as national Democrats continue wrestling with the growing influence of the party’s far-left faction. But Republicans argue that no carefully crafted pledge can erase years of votes that consistently aligned Lee with the progressive agenda she now appears eager to distance herself from.
According to the National Republican Congressional Committee, Lee has voted in line with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 88 percent of the time, despite representing one of the country’s most competitive congressional districts. Republicans say that record, not a campaign-year pledge, is what Nevada voters should judge.
The timing of Lee’s political makeover is no coincidence.
Democrats entered the 2026 cycle facing difficult political terrain after internal party reviews concluded that voters increasingly viewed Democrats as out of touch on kitchen-table issues like inflation, immigration, public safety, and the economy. Vulnerable incumbents in swing districts have since begun emphasizing moderation, patriotism, and fiscal restraint as they prepare for difficult reelection campaigns.
Republicans argue Lee is following that playbook.
But they say her record makes the effort impossible to take seriously.
Over the last several years, Lee has become one of the GOP’s top targets in Nevada. Republicans have repeatedly criticized her vote against No Tax on Tips despite representing Las Vegas, where thousands of servers, bartenders, casino employees, and hospitality workers depend on tip income. They have also attacked her opposition to No Tax on Overtime and tax relief for seniors, her votes against legislation expanding parental rights in schools, and her repeated opposition to funding measures tied to immigration enforcement and law enforcement priorities.
Earlier this year, Republicans also accused Lee of hypocrisy after she criticized corporate housing investors while accepting campaign contributions from Don Mullen, whose firm has become one of the largest institutional landlords in Southern Nevada.
Taken together, Republicans argue those votes paint a far different picture than the moderate image Lee is attempting to project.
NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez dismissed the pledge as little more than election-year political theater.
“Susie Lee’s fake pledge is worth less than the paper it’s printed on,” Martinez said. “Lee’s pathetic pledge won’t hide the truth: Lee is just another rubber stamp for the Democrats’ socialist agenda.”
The issue is likely to become a central theme in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District race, where Lee faces Trump-endorsed Republican Marty O’Donnell. Republicans believe the district’s rightward shift, coupled with President Trump’s victory there in 2024, gives them one of their strongest pickup opportunities in the country.
For Republicans, the strategy is straightforward.
Every time Lee attempts to reposition herself as an independent-minded moderate, they intend to remind voters of the votes she has already cast.
Because in politics, Republicans argue, campaign pledges are easy.
Voting records are permanent.
