President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will return to Las Vegas, Nevada on separate campaign stops over the next two weeks.
On July 9, Vice President Harris will highlight the stakes of the election to members of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander community. The location and time of the campaign event were not disclosed in the announcement.
This is the vice president’s sixth trip to the battleground state this year and her 14th since taking office. Prior visits from Harris to the include January meetings with union members in Las Vegas, a speech at Mojave High School in March, and a post-presidential debate rally in Las Vegas on June 28th.
President Biden will attend two events in Las Vegas next week. On July 16, Biden will deliver a speech at the 115th NAACP National Convention at Mandalay Bay, the White House said in announcement.
“Ahead of this crucial election, the NAACP has worked fervently to educate our members and our community on the importance of exercising our right to vote,” said NAACP President and CEO, Derrick Johnson. “The rights of Black Americans are under rampant attack – from efforts to limit access to education, the mass absolving of diversity programs, and officials at every level actively working to dilute voting rights. There is no better time than now for our presidential candidates to reassure our community that our voices are heard and our concerns are a priority. We welcome President Joe Biden as a key speaker at our national convention. It is our hope that we leave Las Vegas feeling more empowered to cast our ballot – knowing in full faith that we will not be silenced.”
On July 17, the president will address the UnidosUS Annual Conference at the MGM Grand. President Biden “will speak to more than 1,500 Latino leaders, advocates and allies, addressing both the Biden-Harris administration’s accomplishments for the Latino community and our country, and their plans for the future,” UnidosUS highlighted in their announcement.
UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía stated: “We are honored and excited to have President Biden join us in Las Vegas to address one of the largest gatherings of Latino leaders and advocates in the country. One of UnidosUS’s key goals this year is to help political leaders and the media understand the issues and concerns of the Hispanic community across the nation. We look forward to hearing President Biden address our community’s top priorities, including the economy and the cost of living, affordable housing, access to healthcare, and immigration. And we look forward to hearing his vision for the future of our country.”
According to a recent poll conducted by National Public Affairs shows a 10-point lead among Hispanics and 17-point lead among Independents – two groups that former President Donald Trump lost in 2020 – are driving his 12-point electoral swing.
Independent and Hispanic voters are key to flip Nevada to a GOP advantage. Registered Independent voters outnumber Republican and Democrats in the battleground state and Democratic registrations have dwindled from a 4 percent lead to a mere 1.5 percent lead over GOP registrations since the 2020 general election.
