Nevada Leads U.S. in Cases of Drug-Resistant Fungal Strain, CDC Report Shows

NEVADA – According to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Nevada has the highest number of cases in the United States of Candida auris, a fungal strain resistant to medications. The CDC has deemed this strain a threat, and it has seen a significant increase in cases over the past two years.

Dr. Meghan Lyman, the lead author of the report and a CDC epidemiologist, expressed concern over the rapid rise and geographic spread of cases. She emphasized the need for continued surveillance, expanded lab capacity, quicker diagnostic tests, and adherence to proven infection prevention and control methods.

Nevada currently leads with 384 reported cases in the last year, followed closely by California with 359 and Florida with 349. The CDC’s report highlights the urgency for increased efforts to address this growing public health threat.
