HOUSE MONEY: Susie Lee Claimed $81K in Taxpayer-Funded D.C. Lodging Despite Multimillion-Dollar Net Worth

Rep. Susie Lee has received more than $81,000 in taxpayer-funded reimbursements for Washington lodging since 2023, according to House spending records, even as the Nevada Democrat’s most recent financial disclosure places her estimated net worth between roughly $2.17 million and $6.46 million.

Lee’s 2025 personal financial disclosure, filed with the House in August, reports assets and liabilities that produce an estimated net-worth range of $2,173,035 to $6,460,000, according to a review of the filing. Congressional disclosures report many assets in broad value ranges, meaning the figure is an estimate rather than a precise calculation. 9.24.26 NV-03 Susie Lee Housing… The House Clerk’s index confirms Lee filed her 2025 annual disclosure on August 12. 

House Statements of Disbursements reviewed through June 30 show Lee received $81,615 in reimbursements categorized under budget object code 2107, which covers member lodging in Washington while conducting official business. The reimbursements are permitted under House rules. Beginning in 2023, the House allowed members to seek reimbursement for qualifying Washington lodging expenses, a change intended to ease the cost of maintaining a residence in a member’s home district while also spending significant time in the nation’s capital. Supporters of the policy argued the old system disproportionately burdened members who were not independently wealthy. 

Lee’s financial history, however, has previously drawn scrutiny beyond her housing reimbursements.

Business Insider reported in 2021 that Lee failed to timely disclose more than 200 stock transactions dating to early 2020. The trades were valued between at least $267,000 and as much as $3.3 million. Lee has also taken several privately sponsored overseas trips while serving in Congress.

In June, Center Forward paid $13,765.13 for Lee to attend a conference in Amsterdam, according to her House travel disclosure. The filing listed $450-per-night lodging at the W Amsterdam, which Marriott markets as a luxury spa hotel. 9.24.26 NV-03 Susie Lee Housing…

A year earlier, Center Forward spent $23,868 for Lee and her adult son to attend a conference in London. The pair stayed at the InterContinental London Park Lane, and the House Ethics Committee approved the trip. Lee paid personally for four additional days in London after the conference ended, according to the committee’s correspondence and reporting by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. 9.24.26 NV-03 Susie Lee Housing.

Those privately sponsored trips are separate from Lee’s taxpayer-funded Washington lodging reimbursements, and the records cited do not indicate that Lee violated House rules by seeking the lodging payments.

But the numbers create an unusual contrast. A member of Congress whose disclosed finances place her personal wealth comfortably in the millions has nevertheless used a program funded by taxpayers to offset more than $81,000 in Washington housing costs over roughly three and a half years.

For Southern Nevadans paying mortgages, rent and credit-card bills of their own, the disclosure puts a concrete price tag on one of the lesser-known perks of serving in Congress: taxpayers are helping cover Lee’s housing bill in Washington too.
