Susie Lee Lectures Nevadans on Affordability in Apparent $5,700 Necklace

Democrat Rep. Susie Lee launched a statewide tour devoted to the high cost of living while wearing what critics identified as a $5,700 black Tahitian pearl necklace, adding another glittering chapter to the millionaire congresswoman’s long-running war against self-awareness.

Lee joined Democrat gubernatorial candidate Aaron Ford and Nevada Democratic Party Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno on Saturday to launch the party’s “Stuff Costs Too Much” tour at her campaign office.

According to the Nevada Democratic Party, the tour will travel through all 17 counties over five days as Democrats blame President Donald Trump and Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo for Nevada’s cost-of-living crisis.

“Costs are too damn high,” Lee declared while accusing Republicans of making life more expensive.

Her wardrobe delivered a slightly different message.

Republican operatives and online fashion sleuths quickly identified Lee’s necklace as appearing to match Mignot & Co.’s “Rain Storm” necklace, a black Tahitian pearl piece listed for approximately $5,700.

Lee’s remaining outfit was identified as a $420 Ralph Lauren jacket, $128 Anthropologie pants and $165 Camper leather sandals. If those identifications are correct, Lee arrived to lecture struggling families about affordability wearing more than $6,400 in clothing and accessories.

The exact brand and value of the necklace have not been independently authenticated. Still, the political optics required no appraisal. A wealthy politician appearing in apparent four-figure pearls to announce that “stuff costs too much” is the sort of parody Washington usually needs professional comedians to produce.

The National Republican Congressional Committee pounced Monday, accusing Lee of dressing like royalty while treating Nevada voters like fools.

“The hypocrisy was dripping in pearls,” the NRCC declared.

This was not Lee’s first luxury-fashion collision with working-class politics.

Just weeks earlier, Lee was confronted on camera about voting against President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts, which created investment accounts for American children and provided eligible newborns with a $1,000 Treasury contribution.

Lee abruptly raised her phone to her ear, declined to answer and walked away carrying what appeared to be a yellow Hermès Kelly handbag. Depending on the precise model and condition, similar bags can command approximately $42,000 on the luxury resale market.

As The Nevada Globe previously reported, the apparent value of the purse was 42 times the investment Lee voted against providing to an eligible newborn.

The timing of her supposed phone call was flawless. The political judgment was not.

Lee voted against the final Working Families Tax Cuts package in July 2025, joining every House Democrat in opposing the legislation. The measure passed 218 to 214, with Nevada Republican Rep. Mark Amodei supporting it and Lee voting no, according to the official House roll call.

The legislation included No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, tax relief for seniors and the newborn investment accounts. Lee opposed the overall package and later attempted to claim credit for provisions benefiting Nevada workers.

For bartenders, servers, dealers, hotel employees and tradesmen, the legislation meant keeping more of the money they earned. For Lee, the relief was reportedly little more than “crumbs.”

Her accessories keep telling Nevadans exactly how she reached that conclusion.

In November 2025, Lee visited a food bank during the government shutdown wearing what the Congressional Leadership Fund identified as $900 Alexander McQueen sneakers and a $250 designer hat.

“Susie Lee obviously doesn’t know how much $1,150 means to Nevada families,” CLF spokeswoman Lydia Hall said at the time.

The pattern is now difficult to dismiss.

Lee appeared at a food bank in $1,150 worth of designer accessories. She fled questions about stiffing newborns while carrying an apparent five-figure Hermès handbag. She then launched an affordability tour wearing what appeared to be four-figure pearls.

Any politician can own expensive clothing. The problem begins when that politician repeatedly opposes tax relief for working families and then arrives dressed for a royal portrait to explain how deeply she understands their suffering.

Nevadans struggling with rent, groceries, gasoline and child care are not demanding that their representative shop at a thrift store. They are entitled, however, to expect enough humility that she does not turn their financial anxiety into a fashion-show backdrop.

Lee’s party argues that the tour is about listening to families. Her conduct suggests the only thing she heard was the dress code.

“When out of touch millionaire Susie Lee whines about affordability, she apparently means choosing between a five-figure purse and four-figure pearls,” NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez said, adding: “Her hypocrisy is as gaudy as her wardrobe.”

That hypocrisy is politically dangerous in Nevada’s Third Congressional District, which Trump carried in 2024. The district is filled with service workers and working families who have watched Washington politicians preach sacrifice while protecting their own wealth and privileges.

Lee wants those voters to believe she feels their pain. Her record suggests she merely accessorizes it.

Nevada families are counting every dollar. Susie Lee is apparently counting pearls.
