In the early hours of Sunday morning, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police responded to a reported home invasion at a residence in the exclusive Canyon Gate Country Club. Upon arrival, officers discovered 46-year-old Gary Havens suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police reports, the incident occurred just after 5 a.m. on the 2300 block of Bay Hill Drive. Preliminary investigations suggest that Havens was an alleged intruder who was fatally shot during the suspected break-in. No other injuries were reported. Homicide detectives are handling the case, and findings will be submitted to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office for a self-defense review.
The Canyon Gate Community Association confirmed the individual killed was an alleged intruder and noted that security has been increased throughout the neighborhood in response. Residents are being urged to lock doors and windows, activate home security systems, and remain vigilant. “This event serves as an important reminder of the value of proactive home and neighborhood security,” the HOA stated.
This incident underscores the importance of the Second Amendment and the right of homeowners to protect themselves and their property. As crime rates continue to rise in urban areas, it’s imperative that law-abiding citizens have the means to defend their homes and families. This case will undoubtedly reignite discussions about self-defense laws and the rights of homeowners in Nevada and across the nation.
