Out-Of-State Donors Fuel Senator Rosen’s Campaign

Democratic donors from California, New York and Massachusetts have contributed close to $4 million to Senator Jacky Rosen’s reelection campaign. According to FEC documents, out-of-state donors accounted for over 90 percent of the approximate $3.2 million Rosen raised in the last quarter of 2023, compared to less than 9 percent donated by Nevada residents. Rosen’s total cash-on-hand is over $10.5 million.

In comparison, 30 percent of the near-million dollar haul of  leading GOP contender Captain Sam Brown raised came from Nevadans.

Notable individual donors to Rosen’s campaign include tech billionaires, Bain Capital big wigs, and Hollywood moguls. If Bain capital sounds familiar, it is because the Wall Street firm became the bane of Mitt Romney’s failed presidential campaign in 2012. Romney’s detractors in the press hysterically referred to the private equity firm as an “evil ‘Mormonish’ cult” whose transactions were akin to “financial piracy.”

Political Action Committees have also invested heavily in Rosen’s reelection bid. Holding On To Oregon’s Priorities PAC is connected to Democratic Senator Ron Wyden, the architect behind the “Billionaires Income Tax.” The PAC’s top donors are billionaires, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and “greedy” Wall Streeters.

In addition to the $10 million cash on hand, Rosen will get another boost from the Senate Majority PAC, a Democratic super PAC tied to Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), that recently announced a $36 million ad buy in Nevada to re-elect Rosen.

Flush with out-of-state cash, Rosen has an advantage over any GOP rival, however Democrats are facing a brutal Senate map in 2024 as squeezed Silver State voters continue to sour on President Joe Biden.

A recent poll confirms that only 38 percent of Nevada voters indicate that they approve of the job that President Biden is doing while a majority of the electorate – 53 percent – disapprove of the job he is doing. Almost half of the electorate (46 percent) “strongly” disapprove of Biden.

Perhaps Nevadans aren’t contributing much to Rosen due to her ties to the unpopular president, but their lack of donations may also be due to the fact that Nevadans are spending an additional $13,000 a year for household basics due to “Bidenomics.”
