In a comment to The Globe, candidate for Nevada Governor, Joey Gilbert, highlighted his upcoming presentation in Las Vegas on February 8th at the Ahern Hotel:
“The decade-long, broken condition of Nevada’s public schools is destroying our children’s futures, and our state’s economy, safety, and social services net. Led by the perennially failing Clark County School District, our entire State’s public schools are academically dysfunctional, morally bankrupt, socially dangerous, and fiscally irresponsible. My talk on February 8 will offer concerned parents and community members over a dozen insights and ideas they have never heard before, regarding the underlying causes of these problems, and what they can start doing IMMEDIATELY to fix them.”

According to his campaign, the event will follow the Clark County GOP’s gubernatorial candidate debate luncheon held at the Dragon Ridge Country Club in Henderson.
As reported by The Globe, testing scores of 3rd to 8th grade students in Clark County, taken and published by Smart Balance Assessments, show that only 3.9% of Black students and 7.4% of Hispanic students were proficient in Math. In English, 11.2% of Black students and 15.7% of Hispanic students were proficient. Overall, only 20 percent of Clark County students tested proficient in English Language Arts. In math, it was 11.5 percent.
In individual categories, the Las Vegas area ranked 49th for academic growth, 42nd for growth among disadvantaged students, 28th for metropolitan area progress and 42nd for high school graduation rate.
Additionally, the Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of Trustees has been plagued with division, public in-fighting, and controversy and used mask mandates to limit public comment.
The Globe reported: An open records requests submitted by Make CCSD Great Again reveals Clark County School District (CCSD) Superintendent Dr. Jesus Jara emailed other Superintendents and the head of Nevada Charter Schools, Governor Sisolak appointee, Rebecca Feiden, cheering that mask mandates are a strategy that may limit free speech: “Noone will be allowed in our board meeting without a mask. You must wear a mask to enter our board meeting tonight. Good times! Maybe this strategy will limit public comment.”
Although Gilbert and candidate for Attorney General, Sigal Chattah, had their case dismissed to end mask mandates for Nevada’s students, Gilbert, a former professional boxer, is hosting this February 8th event in order to teach parents how to fight for their children in the failing Clark County School District.
